Prof. Mary Gretchen F. Chaves is a full-time faculty member of University of the Philippines Cebu School of Management.  She teaches courses on business management specifically Management, Management Research, Marketing Management, Marketing Research, Management of Innovation, both in the undergraduate (BS Management) and graduate (MBA) programs.  

Prof.  Chaves graduated BS Business Management (cum laude) from UP Cebu College, having enjoyed the prestigious UP-Government Scholarship.  She also obtained the degree Master of Management (Business Management), also from then UP Cebu College.  Through a UP Faculty Fellowship, Prof. Chaves obtained her Doctor of Business Administration (with distinction) from the Graduate School of Business, De La Salle University Manila.  

Prof. Chaves is regularly invited to evaluate and peer-review papers for conference presentations as well as for publication.  She also has been a resource person on trainings on research typologies and methodologies.  Other than presenting papers in conferences, both national and international, Prof. Chaves has also served as session managers in some of the conferences.

Her academic publications are on the areas of marketing and consumer behavior and management education. Prof. Chaves has held various leadership and membership in standing and college committees of UP Cebu. She also actively participates in curricular revision and design of the management programs. 

She engages in business and marketing consulting, from IT start-ups (UP Cebu Technology Business Incubation) to property management, to business processes among business service organizations.   She also conducts commissioned business and market intelligence/research studies, either directly commissioned by clients, or as a third-party provider, commissioned by marketing consulting firms.  Some real estate engagement involved AyalaLand, AboitizLand, Primary Properties, among others.

Prof. Chaves likewise handles trainings on marketing/consumer-related and business/ management issues and research.  She also designs, facilitates, documents, ideation sessions, conducts focus group discussions, and packages marketing plans and feasibility studies, among others.  

From 2010 to 2012, Prof. Chaves took leadership and coordinated with the various business schools in Cebu in the Obra-Negosyo-Eskwela Countryside Enterprise Business Upliftment program, a collaboration of the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) and the Cebu Province, together with the business schools. The program landed as a finalist in the 2013 World Chamber Competition, under the category “Best Small Business Project,” with its write-up application citing one of the published papers of Dr. Chaves on entrepreneurial experiential learning.  Prof. Chaves continues to collaborate with the MCCI for some of the latter’s projects.

Prof. Chaves served as Chairperson of the Business Management Cluster (now, School of Management) from 2007 to 2013.  At present, Prof. Chaves is the Assistant to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and concurrently the Coordinator of the Office of the International Linkages, UP Cebu.  She is also the Chair of UP Cebu Research Ethics Committee.
