RICHARD PHILIP A. GONZALO

He is the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and the Director of the University of the Philippines (UP) System Office Student Financial Assistance.

AVP Gonzalo coordinates student affairs programs across the campuses of the University. Since 2013, he has initiated reforms in Student Affairs Management in UP. AVP Gonzalo was a member of the Technical Working Group that formulated several Student Financial Assistance Guidelines for the Unified Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education (UNIFAST) Board. He currently represents UP in the ASEAN University Network (AUN) Student Affairs Network.

He has extensive experience preparing Tourism Development Plans for Local Government Units. He has worked with the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) in preparing Tourism Project Evaluation Guidelines, and has assisted the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) on Culture-based Development and Governance initiatives. He currently teaches Destination Development courses in the UP Asian Institute of Tourism (AIT). His research interests include Tourism Development, Gender and Tourism, and Tourism Investment Planning. He has also initiated extension projects on Disaster and Crisis Recovery in Tourism for the UP AIT.

AVP Gonzalo is a Certified Public Accountant. He completed his B.S. Business Administration and Accountancy and M.S. Finance in the UP College of Business Administration. He is presently a Doctor of Social Development candidate in the UP College of Social Work and Community Development.
